The way of thinking is that once the person is inside then they are likely to set up accounts or transact business with the bank.

The way the promotion works is the customer has to come in and open a new checking and savings account with a set amount of money. The money has to be left in the account for a certain amount of time before the customer can use the money.
Bank promotions are an effective way to lure people into the building. Banks have found that once the person is in the building it is a matter of good customer service to help them decide to stay with the bank as an account holder.
